Cookie Monster Birthday Party

February 24, 2015 By Jackie Fo 5 Comments

I’ve always loved Cookie Monster. Elmo gets all the glory with his cute (borderline annoying) high voice, but Cookie Monster….he’s the real unsung hero of Sesame Street. Cookie Monster’s end game? Cookies, cookies and more cookies. And you can’t argue with that. Plus he’s sweet. See below.

You know who also loves cookies? My two year old niece Claire. Check out the hashtag #claireeats on Instagram to see her eating cookies and pretty much anything put in front of her. The hashtag is probably trending or gone viral or whatever the kids are saying these days. When it came time to decide on a birthday party theme for our very own little cookie lover, it was easy – Cookie Monster! There’s a plethora of Cookie Monster party decorations available. Party City has tons of it as does Etsy and Amazon. You can throw a super cute Cookie Monster themed party for your kiddo without breaking the bank or losing your mind. Plus it’s a real crowd pleaser because come on…who doesn’t love cookies?

Claire’s party was held at My Gym, a little kids gym that’s perfect for two year olds. They can run around, bounce and jump like crazy and get out that precious (read: exhausting) energy. Then they get all hopped up on sugar (aka cookies) and go home and crash from said sugar high. You might remember that Claire’s big sis Brookie had an Elmo themed party at My Gym just a few years ago.

Claire’s mama, my sister-in-law Drew, had the place all decked out.

There was a super cute Cookie Monster Banner flanked by blue balloons:

The kids table was dressed to the nines with Cookie Monster plates, favor boxes from Amazon and confetti!

I looooved these easy DIY plates Drew made.

And what goes better with cookies than milk? In these adorable little milk bottles of course.

Place Setting

For more delicious decoration, there were cookies in jars complete with cookies on a stick from Etsy.

We also had more cookies, in the shape of Cookie Monster himself of course. These custom cookies were baked and decorated by SugarBakers.

Cookies

To be healthy, the kids had fruit pouches (with Cookie Monster on the front).

#claireeats fruit pouches if she can’t get her hands on a cookie…

Speaking of the birthday girl, let’s talk about her seriously amazing dress (from Etsy, obv). Didn’t you have a personalized dress for your 2nd birthday party? She looks like she’s up to no good here…

Even big sister Brookie got in on the Cookie Monster fun with her very own blue t-shirt.

And don’t you worry, we let Claire Bear eat more than just a fruit pouch for her birthday. She got to bite right into this AMAZING cake.

Cake2

She actually couldn’t blow out the candles because she had cookie in her mouth. Can’t you just hear the inner dialogue?  “Mooooom, can’t you let me finish my cookie before I blow out my birthday candles? Jeez…what’s a girl gotta do around here for a cookie?”

Claire Cake_

Claire really loved the cake and especially loved the #2 cookie. She’s really embracing this whole turning “2” thing…by eating a #2. In fact she tried to get at it from several angles as you’ll see below.

My two fave pictures from the day were little Claire sitting at the head of the table. How cute is this….she’s like “This is my world, preschool friends. You’re just living in it.”

Claire at table_

And then this picture of a super creepy Cookie Monster. I mean, am I wrong or is big Cookie Monster giving the stink eye to his miniature doppelganger in the car? Maybe big Cookie Monster is mad because little Cookie Monster is driving away with all his cookies? The best part is I didn’t even notice this when I was taking the picture, I just accidentally caught this special moment on camera. Of a stuffed animal. Then I then wrote about it for a paragraph on my blog. (What am I doing with my life?)

Creepy Cookie Monster_

All this cookie talk has me thinking about cookies….I’m going to raid the cookie jar now. Back later this week with another fun post! Happy Birthday to Claire Bear!

Shades of Blue: Wedding Colors

February 17, 2015 By Jackie Fo 1 Comment

So hello and hey and hi and all that! How’s the weather where you are? Here in Charlotte, NC we got a whopping single inch of an icy snow mixture which has led to full on panic mode. I’m talking local schools are closed two days in a row, businesses are operating on limited schedules and of course the grocery store has empty shelves.  I actually saw a local newscast yesterday where a field reporter showed us a bush that was frozen. Yup, a frozen bush. Hard hitting news folks…. Gotta love “snow” days in the south! What does this mean for me? I’m working from the couch and enjoying lots o’ food and wine. Sounds great, but after one day of it I’m sort of over it and ready to get back to the groove? (Meanwhile everyone from the Midwest and the Northeast wants to reach through their computer and punch me for saying this after only one day of winter weather…Sorry friends).

I promise this post is about more than how I’m sick of the weather. It’s about how I’ve got the BLUES….the wedding blues that is! One of my upcoming 2015 wedding’s color scheme is shades of blue and it’s made me realize how gorgeous the blues can be! Take a look at these gorge color combos and you’ll have the blues too!

Blue pairs surprisingly well with so many colors. This baby blue and gold inspiration board is perfect, isn’t it?

I’m loving this blueberry signature cocktail. A signature cocktail  is a great way to personalize a wedding. People love fun cocktails (most obvious statement ever…).

These bouquets with hints of blue are gorgeous!

I’m totally obsessed with this gray-blue bouquet with blue thistle.

Another way to incorporate blue into wedding flowers is through the vessels. These cobalt blue vases are amazing!

So are these jewel tone glass vases!

Blue and green pair really well together – like in this arrangement of blue hydrangea and one of my fave flowers, Bells of Ireland.

Here’s another stunning blue and gray arrangement – how gorge is this combination?

This silvery blue linen makes this table pop and is another way to incorporate blue to a wedding tablescape.

Navy is a super popular shade of blue for weddings and a is great alternative to black.  If you’re having a preppy wedding, navy is a great color choice!

Can we talk about bridesmaids dresses? These long navy dresses topped with lace are freaking amazeballs.

I’m loving these varying shades of blue bridesmaids dresses.

Let’s not forget about the handsome dudes now! These navy and dark blue suits are great looking.

Let’s end on sweets shall we? I mean I’ve eaten like 57 million sweets over the past few days so it’s only fitting. I’m loving this white, blue and peachy color combo of this cake.

This is a more traditional cake with navy ribbon, perfect for a preppy, classic wedding!

This gold leaf accented cake with light blue flowers flocked by blue macarons is swoon-worthy…and I try not to use that word. But it is. Sa-woon.

It’s official – these blue wedding ideas are just gorgeous, plus you can check  “something blue” off your list! Hope you’re staying warm out there!!

Oscar Party Popcorn Bar

February 12, 2015 By Jackie Fo 1 Comment

Hollywood’s biggest night is almost upon us. The glitz, the glamour, the dresses – I’m talking about the Oscars of course! Having an Academy Awards party is a must for dishing on all the Red Carpet fashion, and in the spirit of the movies, I’ve created a popcorn bar that’s perfect for any viewing party!

popcornyyyyyyy

To create a popcorn bar with POP (I couldn’t help myself!) I used gourmet popcorn in crazy delicious flavors from Tastebuds Popcorn.  Tastebuds is locally made in the Carolinas and boasts approximately 90 artisan-made flavors! From Maple Bacon to Red Velvet to Lindor Truffle (all made with the actual ingredients BTW), this popcorn is soooo much better than microwave popcorn, trust me.

popcornyy

Party City has a great assortment of awards show party gear and I took full advantage for this popcorn bar. I created a simple black backdrop with a piece of black foam board and Party City cardboard stars. I filled different size glass containers with colorful popcorn and adorned each container with a black ribbon.

To label the popcorn types, I used the stars from Party City and glued them to wooden sticks.

love potion_

So let’s talk popcorn types, shall we? As I mentioned, Tastebuds has about 90 types of popcorn available but here’s a few I chose for my popcorn bar. There’s Love Potion #9 (featuring a young Sandy Bullock) ….

popcorn4

…Champagne and Strawberries…

popcorn1

…Loaded Baked Potato…

loaded baked potato_

and of course, Movie Theater Butter.

popcorn3

But seriously, these were just a few of Tastebuds‘ delicious options. They’ve got salty, sweet, chocolate, you name a flavor and they have it – including holiday flavors (ahem, pumpkin!). The best part is, they ship anywhere and everywhere and if you happen to be in the Charlotte/Belmont/Mooresville area, you can go in and sample flavors before you buy them!

popcorn5

Celebrating Hollywood’s biggest night is a no-brainer with a delicious (and if I say so myself) adorbs popcorn bar! And the Oscar goes to….

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, however I did receive free samples. All opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.
